What changed
Four states moved professional tax slabs in Q1 2026. Maharashtra raised the upper bracket threshold by ten thousand. Karnataka added a new slab at the lower end. Tamil Nadu adjusted the half-yearly remittance window. West Bengal made minor changes to the slab boundaries.
Each change has a different effective date, and at least two were announced after the cycle they affect had already started. Our PT engine handles all four with backdated correction.
How we apply rate changes
When a state changes PT slabs, we update the rate engine the same week. Any payroll cycle whose period overlaps the effective date gets the new slab applied prospectively. Periods entirely before the effective date are pinned to the old slab.
For backdated changes, we run a one-time correction with explicit customer approval. Most customers accept the correction; a few prefer to absorb the difference and apply it next cycle. Both options are supported.
What customers should do
Two things: confirm the effective dates with the rate-change notice we sent, and review the next cycle's PT line items to spot any anomalies. The rest is automatic.
The deeper compliance posture is in our DPDP coverage; PT is one of the smaller surfaces but it changes most frequently.
